With all the changes to Facebook recently, I've realized that it is in bad taste to like anyone anymore.
My biggest reason I am boycotting liking everything is offending my friends. With the new reaction buttons on the New Facebook, it has made liking anything HARD!
Before it was difficult to LIKE it when someone dies, but now the SAD option seems more appropriate, don't you think?
What post is worthy of a LOVE? When do you fall out of LIKE and move into LOVE?
Can you LOVE and LIKE a post at the same time?
Can you LOVE a post because it made you go WOW?
Once I use LOVE, how can I go back to LIKE? There is no going back on LOVE, maybe a side journey over to WOW?
Of course, I accidentally WOWed a post from a elementary school classmate I've been stalking for the past year, how embarrassing.
If I react with HA HA would I offend the person posting. What if I am the only one thinking it was funny? Then everyone reacts to my HAHA with a ANGRY?
A friend just recently lost a bunch of weight and on her pictures I was stuck, I could LOVE this, or I could say WOW but it definitely didn't warrant a HA HA. Would she rather I WOW or LOVE or just move back to LIKE? What would make her happy?
Then you have the SAD and ANGRY buttons, I think this gives too much fodder to those Debbie Downers out there. We all have that one person who will react to everything as SAD, because she's well, just SAD.
So like everyone else, I'm posting on Facebook and wondering why I get so many LIKES but never any LOVE? I'm not feeling the LOVE over here in my corner of the universe.
My last post didn't even get a LOVE? I mean people, it was pretty freaking hilarious, can you at least HAHA or WOW and if you feel really connected to me, give me a LOVE?
I'm going to post that with a -feeling Emotional face and see if I can garner any LOVE maybe a WOW or if I get really desperate
a LIKE.

WTF - Facebook you Changed!!
Facebook has unveiled their new emoticons for "reacting" to posts. Many commenting that they are glad there is a "love" button, others saying they haven't gone far enough.
My emotional status has changed with the addition of these emoticons. It used to be easy.
I look at a post on Facebook, I think about the profound words spoken,
"I like this," I say as I click the button.
I look at a political post on Facebook, I think about the profound words written and I simply scroll by because it is either, too long, not my view point, or I have no idea what the author is talking about.
Many of my friends know that I do not comment on much stuff, because when I "like" it then people know that I am actually on Facebook.
Now, the plot thickens, and decisions get difficult:
I look at a post and have a full conversation with myself"
"So, do I like or do I love this post. If I love this post then it puts it above other posts, how would those people feel about all those posts that I simply liked.
Should I post an explanation that now I can LOVE posts instead of just LIKING them, that way anything done earlier than today is different?
Would I offend someone if I WOW instead of LOVE the post? What if they come back and ban be after not loving their post.
What if I react to something as HA HA, would they think I am laughing at them instead of laughing at what they post? Maybe if I go back and LOVE the post then the HA HA I originally put in would wear off?
Life was simple when there was a LIKE button. You either liked something or didn't. Now with all the crazy people on the Crackbook, there is so much more behind the different emoticons for reacting to post.
Things like:
Why did she only LIKE my post. Didn't she see how hilarious this is, that I should have a WOW button on this one or better yet a LOVE button?
Oh my God, she LOVED my post, can't she see that I am mourning a lost boyfriend? Who could LOVE this?
Why did she say WOW with my weight loss? Is it a WOW because I look good or a WOW, it doesn't look like you lost anything at all. I'm going over and DISLIKING everything she's posted.
Why did that girl LOVE what my boyfriend posted? Are they an item?
See it is great that you can now "react" more to Facebook posts, but we can't put Pandora back in the box now that it is open, now can we?
Of course they missed the most important Facebook Emoticons:
NOPE
WHHHAAAATTTTT?
CAN OF WHOOPASS
MEH
AWW, HELLO NO
Oh and the important one:
NOONE CARES.

WTF - Keeping It Real and Keeping It Safe
Some mornings you just have to love your Facebook feed, two stories completely related right next to each other! The First was this story about a woman asking firemen to remove a chastity belt. Why am I talking about this story? Here's some of the details:
One story said she was 60 years old and wore the belt to stay pure. Honey, you are sixty, is staying pure so high on the list? Could leather and steel really be comfortable for that long?
Then it said, she walked into the station wearing the belt. With anything else? What were the firemen thinking when she said, "I need help breaking the lock on my Chastity belt."
Why did she need help breaking the lock? Well, she lost the key. Wow, there are lyrics to a good Country Music song in there, but then think about it - she was sixty. I've been losing my phone since my early teens? A tiny Chastity belt key?Of course I did search whether or not these things were still for real, and in case you need one, well, here ya go! CLICK HERE. I may be a little worried about the one review mentioning the key broke the first time they tried it in the lock. At least the fire station is only 5 minutes away.
Upon my search, chastity belts run from 6.59 to over 400 dollars. I can see a younger version of me, say, like 59 years old saying, "Honey, I'm sorry. I have a chastity belt on, but don't worry, I bought the cheap one only 6.59!"
Of course perhaps I could use the belt, "Honey, you said you would fix the drain on the sink in the bathroom, well, I lost my key down there."
***
Then I scroll down to the product I'll actually use. This lock doesn't have a key, it has an APP! Controlled by your phone, who needs keeping up with a key.
Who am I kidding, I think my chastity went by the way of the dinosaur legions ago.
Then I think, I really could use this product.
Easy locking.
Controlled by a phone app so no lost keys, I only lose my phone occasionally
Keeps everything safe
Lifetime guarantee!!!
The App is designed for you to set a goal before you reward yourself, you could could set a goal of cleaning house for 1 hour, or maybe putting in 10,000 steps, or maybe finishing that book!
You know you want it too! Click here for this amazing product!
Yes, the smart cookie jar! Tuck away the cookies, the candy (Not the chastity belt candy) the TV remote, the KY, the gaming controller until you app tells you the coast is clear. At least we don't have to get the fire department involved with this one.
Unless they have a sweet tooth like me.

WTF - Getting Lost in Social Media - Not me!
Wow, what's up with all the drama parading around the internet. I mean who cares who Luke and Laura are (damn, have I dated myself there?) when you have plenty of social media buzz to keep you busy. I come to my social media for the funny videos and jokes, not the vitrol. In order to stay "friends" I'm coming clean with things I will not do:
I'm not clicking on the See More portion of any more posts, especially if they are religious or political in nature. Listen, we all know you are stating your own opinions, but if I'm bored after two sentences, I'm not reading any more.
I will not click "like if I agree. I may agree, I may not, but who's business is it anyway?
I will not comment or like anything of yours if you have over 2000 friends, because then I get notification after notification on your political comment.
I've stopped sharing bizarre stories. Sorry folks, the gold plated testicle story, the twerking with the guy in the coffin, to the sex toy that deposits alien eggs in your body, they are not REAL. Seriously people, check if your story is real before demanding my attention. At least the people living in the attic of Walmart was real.
Clicking on anything that takes me to those damn sites making you click through pictures along with pop up ads. You will be removed from the friends list if you share that black hole and I accidentally fall down it.
Like your picture on Facebook when I've already liked it on Instagram, takes too much time.
Take the quiz you shared on "What color represents my life?"
By the way, it is gold.
Sit and watch the video you shared of something yummy being made, I think all these videos are making me fat.
Let any of your religious or political posts change my mind. It may make you feel better to say it but it's not changing any minds.
So post things I want to see, pictures of your kids, your family.
Add in a good dose of funny stuff. Jokes, memes, things we all want to see.
Oh and all those cute bunny, kitten and hedgehog videos. I'm definitely clicking on those.
Better yet, tell me something I want to know, like this.....thank you!

Catholic School Comes Back
Just when I thought I could forget about the big black age gorilla in the corner of my office, a join group request comes through on my Facebook. Not only are my old friends finding me, but they are reminding me - I'm getting old!
What's this? My old Catholic School Class has started a Facebook page?
Let's see who is on on there. Oh yeah, I remember vividly all of them.
Now let's go and take a look at all of their pictures. Wow, everyone looks pretty great.
We've got some married, is that person married? Let me look at their pictures and see if there is another half and kids in the picture.
Look at all these wonderful professions! Resurrection School you produced some good ones. Maybe I should take professional snake wrangler off of mine for now.
I'd better go and look through my pictures. Yep, there's a few of the family - looking good. And a few of me, looking fabulous. Except that picture, that picture makes my butt look big. Oh well, at least I look like I am doing something fabulous even if my butt looks big.
Oh wow, someone posted a class picture.
Look at the platform shoes, the
hush puppies and all the Charlie's Angel's hair.
What am I wearing? I remember trying to perfect the Jacklyn Smith hair, doesn't seem to be working here.
Let me see if I can name everyone in the picture. Yes! Maybe I'm not losing my mind after all.
Here come the friend requests.
What a cool way to reconnect. I haven't seen most of these people in over 20 years. Amazing, we all look the same just a few indications that we've added a few years.
What? A reunion? I'd better get back on the PX90 starting tomorrow.
Tonight, I'll just eat some more chocolate and troll all my old classmates Facebook pages.
What would you do if your elementary school chums found you on Facebook?

You'll never believe what happens next!
Is it just me or does every video post showing up in my newsfeed usually contain these phrases:
You'll never believe it.
Look what happens next.
You gotta watch this.
It seems everyone is begging me to watch all these cute dog videos circulating. People! I am very busy, here's just a preview of what I am doing. I thought I would share part of my day in funny video comments. So here goes:
Kelly Melang doesn't want to get out of bed. Watch what happens next!
This young woman is waiting for her cup of coffee, you won't believe what happens next!
Kelly Melang sits down to work on her computer. I can't believe my eyes on what happens next!
Kelly Melang takes the what's your hot stripper name quiz on Facebook and what happens next is awesome.
Oh my God! Kelly is out of coffee and must go get another cup!

My heart sank when Kelly checked the balance in the bank account but I am so glad I kept on watching!
Watching Kelly pull her chin hairs is horrifying but what she did next is AWESOME!
Kelly's planning an hour bike ride, I can't watch 15 seconds into it but I'm glad I watched to the end!
Kelly's climbing up that hill on her bike, nothing prepared me for the next 30 seconds!
Looks like it is time for a nap, you won't believe what happens next!
Funny how people are working on attention grabbing headlines so much that now they all seem to run together into a "You won't believe what happens next" mess.
Oh wait, this one with the puppy and the piglet......

How to Properly Have a Fight on Social Media
When we were having problems with a neighbor, it was simple. You walked over, knocked on the door and had a conversation. Granted, sometimes, the conversation didn’t end well, but it ended quickly nonetheless. In this day and age of social media, conversations not only last a long time, but in some cases they never end.
For instance, I neighbor is busy playing “Achy Breaky Heart” a little too loud on his stereo system. The first time he plays it, it gets stuck in my mind for the rest of the night. When it comes on loud again, floating across the peaceful lake, I’m wondering if they are having some type of line dancing contest, seeing who can break the Guiness Book of World Records in renditions of Achy Breaky danced.
Rather than doing what any normal neighbor would do, walk over, knock on the door and say, “Hey, your music is too loud.” Only to be answered by a very polite, “Fuck you.” I turn to Facebook and post. You tag your neighborhood hoping that they see your post and you don’t have to move your lazy butt over to their front door.
Well, of course, they see your post on Facebook, aren’t you friends with everyone and their mother. A few hours later when you login for the 50th time checking your feed, this post comes up from your neighbor.
You sit there looking at the post trying not to get mad. I mean, you’re not out of touch. You listen to all kinds of music, but if you hear Achy Breaky one more time your head is about to explode. Thinking that you could go buy a CD of Jack Johnson and anyonmously drop it in their mail box, you resort again to the only thing you know - social media.
You sit staring at the blinking cursor, part of you wanting to say something like 3745 Buddingbrook Lane has not only horrible taste in music but rednecks, some little part of you says, “Don’t post it. You’ll regret it.” So you go and simply share this:
Of course you are thinking, “this should explain to them that I do like music, but they need to move on from the Achy Breaky, I mean can’t they dance to the Macarena? Or better yet Electric Boogaloo, that doesn’t get stuck in my head every time they play it.”
I sit and wait, my heart beating faster as we approach dusk, and across the lake I hear the sounds of a party. Taking out my binoculars, (what? Don’t you spy on your neighbors?) I see 10 people out on the deck. My heart falls as I head, “Don’t break my heart, my achy break heart….”
It’s become war.
I post a status update. “Sometimes people need this button.”
Of which, they then quickly reply back with this.
You sit at your computer, thinking the only way to settle this is to go and shoot a hole in the transformer.
But wait, then I’ll lose power too.
I sit, listening to Achy Breaky, my mind wondering, “What were the moves to that line dance? How did it go?”
I change my mind, turn off my computer and figure, someone was going to have to do this the old fashioned way.
A five minute walk, then an agonizing 5 minutes after ringing the door bell. My neighbor comes to the door in a pair of old blue jeans, white T-shirt, ice cold beer in hand. This may not end well, good news is he is not carrying his shot gun.
“Hey, I’m trying to write tonight. Anyway you can either turn down the music or pick a different song,” I put one foot on the step figuring if he jumped at me I’d have a leg up getting away from him.
He takes a sip of his beer, I am glad that there isn’t anyone there to “Hold my beer, and watch this.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Will do,” he says with an English accent, not sticking with the attire he’s wearing.
“Thanks,” I say and turn to leave. I quickly turn back, thinking we will be neighbors for quite a while, “Sorry about that Facebook fight. No hard feelings.”
He looks at me as if I have lost my mind, “I don’t have a Facebook account.”
What?

WTF - Tag You're It!
So I'm happily stalking all my friends on Facebook, when all of a sudden a red notification button appears.
"So and So has tagged you in a photo."
Oh.
No.
Immediately my mind goes back to what I did last night.
I was cool. I think. Nothing crazy.
Oh wait, I was dancing, wasn't I?
Immediately I go to the picture. Hoping it was not from the night before because, and I have to pull all the cuss words out of what I was saying to myself, "I wasn't wearing the most flattering outfit benefitting a picture of tagment on the Book of Face."
My computer sensing my discomfort that there is some picture out there in the stratosphere of me that I cannot get to, immediately decides that my wireless router will not work when I am just pulling up the picture that has my name screaming all over the internet.
NOOOOOO!!
I have to go and reboot the router. Wait the agonizing 15 seconds to replug it in, wondering if I should just jump on the hot spot of my phone because....
God, what is the picture and what I am doing???????
I am praying the it is some inspirational prayer about trees and nothing to worry about. But only I know what I have been doing with my friends lately, and I cannot tell you how many of them have smart phones.
They mean well.
"Oh look, here's a picture of Kelly in the 176 pictures I uploaded from Alex's 2nd version of his 15th birthday party."
No one thinks before they tag, important things like:
Well, doesn't Kelly look like a fat cow in this one.
Oh look, Kelly's boobs are falling out of her shirt, is that a nipple I see?
Wait a minute, is that a donkey behind Kelly, who's tongue is, in the picture, in a very appropriate place.
Who is that girl standing inappropirately close to Kelly and why is she staring at her like that.
No, they go ahead and load a photo, tag me in it and don't think of the consequences.
Finally, the router comes back online, now I have to wait for the computer to catch up. Facebook is like, "Oh I'm sorry, is this important to you? Well, we've changed our algorhythms so that you cannot see it!"
I'm searching wondering if the one time my friend took her phone into the bathroom at that bar resulted in the photo, when the photo finally pops up.
Oh, wait. Look it's one from when I am seventeen.
Dayum, I look pretty hot.
And skinny.
And when did I have those legs.
All that worry over nothing. I guess I'll leave the tag.
Just as I sigh in relief, a second notification pops up on my screen.
Nicole Morgan has tagged you in a photo.
Oh shit, she lives in South Florida.
It could be a bathing suit photo.
Facebook says, "Oh, now is the perfect time to SLLLOOOOWWWW DDDOOOWWWNNN."
"So and So has tagged you in a photo."
Oh.

So you have those annoying people on Facebook that beg you to HIDe them? You know what, I did and you should see all the cute pictures of puppies in my news feed.
Who would you add?

A Day In The Life Of A Facebook Addict
You are that Facebook person, I know you are:
You see a post and you like it.
So you say, "I will like you."
Then you see another post, but you don't like it. It is sad, you shouldn't like something that is sad?
But you have to like it, because you want your friend (who you really don't know) to know that you see they are sad----by liking it.
You see another post, it makes you angry. You do not delete the person off of your feed, you send an angry message back to that person (who you really don't know either) and get into a fight that ends with deleting them, which you should have done in the first place.
You see another post, you decide that it is not nice enough to like, close, but not close enough.
Finally, there is that cute picture of kittens - not only must you "like" this but you must share this because everyone shares kittens.
Then there's the picture that says, "Hangover, The Gods way of saying you kicked ass last night." You love this but there's a problem:
If you like it, then they know you were drinking last night.
If you share it, then people will know that you drink.
What will all these people, who you really don't know anyway think about you drinking on a Tuesday night.
You take that one and save it for another day - maybe you can share it on a Sunday, but wait then what will all the people you don't know, who go to church, think?
You see a post from a friend about her Labrador puppy, you think, "OK, enough of the real puppy pictures, we like the funny ones that someone else made."
Then you stop by another friend's post and look at the picture, "OK, that's not real. I will not like it."
Finally you see a few pictures of several friends you actually know together, "Well, why wasn't I invited to that party? I mean we are Facebook friends." You decide to LIKE it to show them that you KNOW and you are not happy about it.
All of this happens in the 5 minutes it took you to pull up Facebook and take a look.
You close out of it to actually get some work done.
But go back 5 minutes later.
Is this you? Do you have continual conversations on what you LIKE and what you do not LIKE?

Did you read that status update? What?
To all those great fans of my page and friends of mine, here's a few Facebook etiquette for you:
10. If you are posting religious or political posts - you're offending half of your friends while pissing off the rest of them. Arguments? That's for text messaging, not for the world.
9. Facebook is your link to the world. The world does not need to know, "Carol, you need to call me about my bunions." That should be in a personal, yes a PERSONAL message.
8. Seriously, if someone posts on Facebook that their dog just died, do not LIKE IT. And if someone asks a question like, "What's your favorite color?" ANSWER the question rather than LIKING it.
7. I know you really need your coins in Bejeweled Blitz, but please do not send me app requests to increase your coin count. a. I will not reply and b. I really don't care how many coins you need.
6. We don't need "Vaguebooking," putting up a status update that is so vague that everyone goes WTF? Case in point, what I just red, "After today, I'm beginning to wonder if it is all worth it."
5. Your CAPS LOCK button means you are YELLING! We can understand when the button gets stuck once, but continual CAPS LOCK MEAN YOU HAVE A LOT OF ANGER ISSUES TO DEAL WITH.
4. Oversharing - there is such a things as TMI - too much information. The picture of the chopped off finger (not good around breakfast time) and this status update I actually read, "Note to self: Thongs don't work with wrap around dresses."
3. Stalkommenting - It's OK to stalk someone, many of us feel slightly flattered. But commenting on every single thing we post - not cool.
2. Don't make me like anything with a "If you are a dog person, like this status. If you are a cat person, comment." Believe me, I will do neither.
1. You don't have to be everyone in the world's friend. Sometimes it's OK to ignore the request from Piggly Wiggly Patty if you really don't know who she is. And Debbie Downer - she'll never know if you unfriend her. Keep your Facebook less stressful by keeping your real friends close.

Decisions, Decisions.....
In the age of social media, we've become sticklers on what we do. Have you found yourself: 10. Looking a picture from all angles, making sure your butt doesn't look big BEFORE posting it to Facebook?
9. Agonizing over which recipe to pin to your Pinterest page because you want everyone else to think you actually cook this shit.
8. Looking over your shoulder when you are stalking someone on Facebook to make sure they are not standing there stalking you.
7. Getting comment from someone then stalking them a little bit to figure out who they are and how you know them.
6. Trying to pick the perfect picture to Pin to Pinterest and checking the post to Facebook link, you have to look smart, sexy and capable to your Facebook following.
5. Unfriending a few pages because you never realized until now that your child is behind you looking over your shoulder when you are checking your social media accounts. #awkward4. You loose all self esteem when Facebook thinks you are a knee with facial recognition.
3. Thinking that you need to sound like Pollyanna because everyone else is doing it. "I love my husband so much that even when he's in the bathroom pooping, I miss him. He's been in there way too long. And he's such a great guy, when will he come out so we can snuggle on the couch together?"2. Stealing someone else's Pinterest Pin and passing it off as your own because your attempt at the Kit Kat Lasagna looked like crap.
1. Want to scream out there into cyberspace - "Hey, I'm am freakin hilarious, will you please show me some love? At least like that very funny post - just like it. Do you hear me?"

Why Don't you LIKE me?
Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in stats.
How many people liked what I wrote. Did anyone share it?
Why don't they like this, it's pretty hilarious to me.
I can get many positive comments, why am I holding onto the negative ones?
Then I read a quote this morning that makes a lot of sense, "Write like an orphan."
Write what I need to say, and don't agonize over the notifications.
Don't get bogged down by stats that look like you are falling off a cliff on the number of hits.
Create what I need to create, say what I need to say.
Don't read the reviews, don't analyze the comments.
Put it out there.
Move On.
There's better things to do.

No, I won't SIT!
My dog is teaching me patience as I take her for her walk in the morning. There are a few life lessons I could use from my dog.
Patience - my dog has bowels of steel. How can she go on a 30 minute walk, starfish as we leave the door only to wait until we are back home to take a dump by MY front door? That is a lesson in patience that I need, that good things come to those who wait, if you think you can do it, you can do it. But especially, its amazing how fast you can walk when you have to go to the bathroom - great exercise!
Ask for the belly scratch - if you don’t ask for it, then you won’t get it. I could do what she does and walk over to my husband on the couch and fall on my back in his lap with a happy look on my face? Or I could lick his leg to get his attention? If I don’t ask for it then I won’t get it - and when I do it feels oh, so good.
Nothing like stretching - I wish I could stretch my legs the way my dog can stretch hers. She can be in mid walk, stop do a full stretch then continue about her way. I try to stretch and muscles say, “wait a minute, what are you trying to do to us, we’re gonna cramp up on you!” Better yet, find something soft to lay on and go into full stretch mode.
Stop to smell the poo - I know she has things to do, especially go to the bathroom the minute we walk out the door, but she always has time to stop and smell the poo. It teaches me that I too, must stay up to date on the neighborhood happenings, she reads the poo, I should take the time to read the news.
It feels good to rip something up - sure it’s my underwear, the boys stuffed animals, a few stray socks, but she’s taught me to let my energy out - to rip things up a little bit. Sometimes just because it feels good, and other times for attention - especially if falling in my husband’s lap doesn’t work - I’ll rip up his underwear!
My dog teaches me to love unconditionally, to accept everyone with their flaws and always, I mean always be happy to see them. What lessons has your dog taught you?

Pinterest - sucking on that great teat of my time!
Have you been over to Pinterest yet? I’d say don’t go because it’s one of those black hole places on the Internet that is a huge mouth that sucks all the time out of your life. “Oh look at this beautiful picture on Pinterest, what? It’s already Christmas again?” Of course, I have to tell you to go to Pinterest because then you’ll see all the COOL stuff I’ve found and put on my bulletin boards.
It started, just like any other new Internet site with a little peek in there, “wow look at this, oh, I could try that recipe, hey that’s a really funny quote.” Pinterest like all the other sites, then sucks you in my creating a username for you and before you can say Pinterest, you’ve got an account. It doesn’t stop there, I’m sure Pinterest is out in the blogesphere shouting, “Hey! Did you see Kelly Melang is here?” Because, the next day I start getting emails, “So and So is following you on Pinterest, hey, another person in following you on Pinterest.”
Sidenote here: I must be a pretty cool person to get so many followers on Pinterest so quickly right---you didn’t hear me say that.
So with over 60 friends following me, my first thought is not, “wow that’s a lot of followers” but “Holy Crap, my Pinterest boards are EMPTY. I gotta get some Sh*t out there, I mean my following awaits!”
Here’s the second way Pinterest sucked on the great teat of time, you can spend the rest of your lift looking for badges, or making badges to make your board look COOL!
“Did you see that eggshell craft Maria put up on her board?”
I think, “Really, a crummy eggshell craft, didn’t you see the making your own ink and paper craft on MY board?”
My other friend, “I saw a funny quote, ‘Run like you stole it.”
“THAT’S FUNNY? I could so shut that board down with the quotes sitting on MY favorite quotes and places board.”
So I figured that 5 Hour Energy was created to help us Pinterest freaks, it helps us through that maniacal hour of trying to find just the right pin for my “In My Mind” board that makes it PERFECT! Buwahahahah!
So pin away friends, and if you haven’t seen Pinterest yet, get ready for the great sucking noise as you log in as time slips away, but don’t forget to check out my AWESOME board! Are you letting Pinterest suck away on your teat of time?

Technically I'm not available....
There are so many outlets no on the computer and internet to socialize with others, I love staying in touch with friends and family using these outlets, but they are beginning to erode my confidence. It starts with my Yahoo Mail Account. I log in and the first thing it asks me is my chat status….
Are you…..
The options are Available, Busy or Invisible. I stare at all three. I could choose to say that I am Available, but I’ve been married close to 25 years so technically I’m NOT available. I could choose busy, because aint that the truth, I’ve got 1 husband, 2 small boys and 1 dog so yeah, I’m pretty busy. But right now I should choose invisible because I feel pretty invisible every time I ask someone to pickup their clothes off the floor, or close the cabinet doors or put the roll of toilet paper ON THE TOILET PAPER ROLL! Choosing invisible means my friends can’t chat with me, so I choose to say I’m available, saying to my wonderful husband, “Technically I’m not available in that way, I’m just available.”
Then I go over to Facebook and it tells me that I don’t have enough friends, “I have plenty of friends, I think.” If asks me to help some of my friends make friends and a few I do feel sorry for them, gee, they don’t have any friends so it’s my duty to help them find friends. Then I wonder, is it asking MY friends to help me FIND FRIENDS? Do I really have enough friends? At least Facebook Chat asks the simple question, are you Online or Offline……it does let me choose a relationship status. I once choose Its Complicated prompting my dear husband to come and ask, “What’s so complicated? ”
So in Yahoo, I’m Available but not in that way, I’ve got plenty of friends in Facebook to feel that I’m a pretty cool person, and as always I’m ready to chat. Don’t worry, I don’t think any less of you when Facebook tells me YOU don’t have ENOUGH friends, I’ll help you out. Are you available today?
